Research interests

I am interested in a wide variety of topics within the field of musicology, music psychology, and philosophy of mind. My main research interests lie in the experience of listening, affect and musical emotions, and social and cultural aspects of musical behavior. I completed my PhD on music and sadness in 2016, which also provided me with some insights into grieving, bereavement, and rituals relating to loss. I have also investigated other negative emotions, and aversive experiences associated with music. In addition to music and emotions, I've studied musical creativity and the affective experiences involved in creative processes.

Besides conducting research, I have done my best to be active in popularizing science and communicating research based knowledge to a wider audience. I see it as our duty as researchers to make an impact on society and not only within academia.
